A German tourist suffered serious injuries after being bitten by a large fish while swimming in Thailand

BANGKOK – On November 29, a German tourist was injured after being bitten by a large fish while swimming at Khao Lak Beach in Phang Nga Province, Thailand.

A 57-year-old man suffered a deep wound to his left leg, approximately 15 cm wide and 30 cm long.

Local authorities, including Takua Pa District Sheriff, Phang Nga Tourism Business Association president and marine resources officials, visited the site to investigate the incident.

A 29-year-old lifeguard from a nearby hotel testified that the tourist, while in the water, signaled for help.

Upon reaching the hiker, they discovered a serious bite wound. Although initial speculation suggested a shark attack, authorities are waiting for expert analysis to confirm what species of fish it involved.

The injured tourist was taken to a hospital in Phuket province.

Local authorities and hotel operators placed red flags on the beach to warn tourists of the potential danger. They also issued a recommendation calling on swimmers to exercise caution.

The Phang Nga Tourism Business Association said it is working with relevant stakeholders to further investigate the matter and implement additional security measures. NATION/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
